Keep calm and carry on

Everyone has experienced tension in their lives. Tension is an essential function of living. It is a self protective reaction when we find ourselves faced with threats to our safety, well-being or self esteem.

Recognising the signs of  tension will help you deal with the situation or problem in hand. If you find it difficult to get along with people around you , small pleasures in life do not satisfy you, you are unable to stop thinking about your problems, you fear people or situations which never used to bother you, you are suspicious of your family or friends, you feel inadequate and always suffer the tortures of self doubt, DO NOT PANIC. There always actions you can take to make things better.

When something is not right , just talk it out. Share your problems or anxiety with someone you can trust. Iron out your dissatisfaction to help you solve the problem or at least help you see things from a different perspective.

Sometimes it helps to get away from a problem by immersing yourself in other activities for a change of mood. Forcing yourself to face to face the problem when you may not be getting answers is not helpful. Suffering will not help solve the problem. Wait until you are  more composed emotionally and intellectually before dealing with the problem.

People under tension will feel that an ordinary workload is too much to handle. Therefore, proritise your work. Deal one thing at a time. Finish the most urgent tasks first and set aside the others. Once the urgent ones are dealt with, you will find the rest easier to solve.

It is also always best to go easy with criticism. Some people expect too much from others and are often frustrated when they do not measure up. In order to avoid this, keep in mind that each person has a right to develop as an individual. Therefore, instead of being critical with others always look for their good points and focus on that.

Most of the time, the emotional obstacles we face arise from practical problems. Who does not want peace of mind and good health? However, only a few of use are fortunate to have all internal qualities and external circumstances these things. And they have to work to maintain it too. But for the rest of us, we have to work to achieve them. This means striving for  better understanding of ourselves and the people around us. This also means working out our problems and seeking help when we cannot do it ourselves.
