A friend of mine sent me this story and I would like to share it to all of you.
One day, a professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he picked up a large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. Again he asked the class and the class agreed that it was full. Then, he poured sand into the jar and students responded with a unanimous " YES!" the professor then produced two cups of coffee under the table and poured the contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.
" Now," said the professor as the laughter subsided, " I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things like your family, health, friends and your favourite passions and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, house, car. The sand is everything else, the minor stuff. If you put the sand into your jar first, there is no room for the pebbles and golf balls to fit in. The sane goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you."
He paused and continued, " Pay attention to the things that are critical in your life. Take care the things that really matter. Set your priorities. Suddenly, one of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled and said " I am glad that you asked. It show that no matter how full your life may seem, there always room for a couple of coffee with a friend."
With this, the class ended. After hearing this provocative story from my friend, I could not help myself stop thinking about it. I had all kind of thought about my past and what I could have done to achieve a better outcome. However, this is life. You can't go back to past and change the things you want them to be. What is done cannot be undone. Thus, I hope all of you will make wise and reasonable decision in life and appreciate every moment you have with your family members and friends. Do not regret after you miss that moment in life. Neko :)
